Those odd odd nights

Now I kinda wish I haven't been so lazy with this thing. This post would be much more clearer had I posted about the first incident. But I didn't. So now I leave you with a half assed version of part one and then an enticing part two section:

So Part one, short version:

You may recall in my last post I mentioned the name Greg Rzab. Some weeks ago I was at keegans on tuesday (as I have been for the last year n a half) watchin Leadfoot play. I was with chris that night (as I have been a lot lately). I was somewhat drunk, somewhat high, just enjoying another tuesday night. I recognized a gentleman leaning on the buckhunter arcade game. Looking around, enjoyin the music; I've seen him play several times with Umphrey's McGee. Three times to be precise. The first was last year New Years Eve run, then the second time was the recent August skyline show, where Greg played with Ray White, Frank Zappa's old guitarist. They're in a band called Talkin' Shoes. The third time was down at U of I again with Ray White. He's a sick sick bass player. Anyways, after recognizing him I walked over, asked if his name was Greg, and he responded yes. I asked if he plays with Ray White and he said yes. I proceeded to tell him, I'm a new fan and I seen him play and blah blah blah blah blah. We ended up talkin throughout the night about a whole random array of shit. He came to see leadfoot play, a long story short, they ended up playing together on Halloween and Greg came down to keegans to check em out.
End of part 1:

Part Deux:
Went to keegans last night (hrmm...perhaps my dear loyal readers the theme here is that every tuesday I go to keegans. So stalkers and other freaky fucking people out there or HOT GIRLS now you know where to find me)and turns out Greg was there again. This time I was with lauren (Later I met up with chris). Greg was chattin with Steve n the rest of leadfoot, so I went up to say hey. I didn't expect Greg to actually remember me, but turns out he did, and we ended up hanging out the whole night. It was a surreal night. Just to par you up on speed if your to lazy to google Greg:
Greg is a bassist. He's a well known bassist. He was Buddy Guy's bassist for about 13 years, and he's also played with everyone. He's played with Clapton and Gov't Mule. He's played with Stevie Ray Vaughn and was actually with him the night before he died. He is now in a band with A guitarist from Frank Zappa's band Mothers of Invention.
Thats who Greg is. And honestly I did not actually know this much information about him when I first met him, cept he told me a few things like he used to play with Buddy guy and Gov't Mule.
Anyways, last night was just a cool night. We started off talkin about new years eve plans, he had none, so then I mentioned playing with Umphrey's again and I tried convincing him to join them which he said probably just may happen since Kellar is playing too. I mentioned that Mike Gordon (from Phish) had just played a show with Kellar (I did this to see what kinda response I'd generate from him...didn't get the response I wanted) He's not a big phish fan, but we did talk about Trey a bit. Which was odd, cause we switched the subject of Kellar and Mike over to Trey and Mike playing with Bill Kreutzman from the Grateful Dead. Gregs first question was "Trey's outta rehab right?" which shocked me a bit, because it was never confirmed that Trey was in rehab, but now I guess it is. We talked a bit about Trey's playing style then Greg nervously said that Steve invited him up to play for the next song. He was thinking about leaving. He was nervous about playing and kept saying he needed to get drunker to play. Hence shots. We did a few shots, then he tried sneaking out, and I sent him up to the front to go play. W0w0w0w0w0w0w0W. Steve, Mike, Anthony, Mike and Joe and Greg did such a sick fucking jam. It was funny cause I actually said to Lauren that I wish someone was recording this because no one is ever gonna hear this again, but it as it turns out they do. I was talkin to steve, and he asked if I wanted a copy. He said they record every show. I told him I'd make a list of shows I want.
After keegans we all went over to hearts and stayed there talkin all nite. Greg would just randomly tell stories about playing with Stevie Ray, Sam Cooke an Buddy Guy, random ass shit. But really fucking cool. It was really cool seein everyone jam with him, I could feel thier excitement, I could hear it in thier playing. It's cool to boast about.

Hopefully Greg comes up to dingbats tonight, He said he may, I had Mike and Steve try to sway him also, hopefully we all did the job. So overall...cool nite. Unexpected yet amazing. Hung out with a legend. He thought I was cool. Now it's offical my friends. I am cool. COOL.

Soo...go check em out yourself.
