This post has nothing whatsoever to do with fandom! Shock.

(It does, however, contain a lot of flailing and unnecessary squee.)

You! You there! You like music? You like well-done, surprising covers? Of course you do. Stop lying to me.

In that case, step one: Open up iTunes and head to the iTunes Store.

See that shiny little search bar up there? Type in "Back in Baroque". Seriously. Trust me on this.

Now click on the "Back in Black" track. Listen to the sample.

Finished with that? Good. Now listen to "You Shook Me All Night Long".

Intrigued? Perhaps pleasantly coaxed? Now click on the artist of "Back in Baroque" which, if you have been following my instructions correctly, should be the Vitamin String Quartet.

Now click on "All Songs By This Artist".

Now go buck wild.

Okay, I realize this is less than exciting for anyone who does not share my mad love of string quartets, but O.M.G. I mean, it's a string quartet version of AC/DC. And it sounds really good. I'm still trying to wrap my brain around that. I mean, you'd think that "Back in Black" without electric guitars would sound really, really wierd, but...but it's good. Really good.

And then they've got over 1200 string-quartet covers of other pop/rock/folk/indie songs in there and - well, to be fair, not all of them sound good. "Nightswimming" and "We're Going to be Friends" could not possibly sound better or sweeter than the originals, and "We Will Rock You" is unimpressive, but really, how could it not be? Just not the same without the words.

But everything else? I mean, they have string quartet covers of Nirvana. And Metallica. They have freakin' "Enter Sandman" played with violins and it sounds awesome.

And...I mean..."Iron Man". Who would have thought that would have sounded good?

They've even managed to make "Like a Rolling Stone" sound pretty in strings and that song has no discernable tune. (What? It doesn't. It's a great song, but, really...no tune.)

You have no idea how much I'm geeking out about this. I don't know how I'll manage this, but I AM going to scrounge up more iTunes money. Like right now.

Totally. Geeking. Out.
[EDIT] Of course, in the middle of this string quartet brain orgy, I am also occasionally listening to 30-second samples of (so far) Wumpscut, the soundtrack to some Bollywood movie, and the opening theme to Casino Royale (and, of course, the Vitamin String Quartet version thereof). I think I lose at music.

Also, at some point I must share the pure utter imported joy that is Vanessa-Mae with you all. She is wonderful and deserves to be shared.

And perhaps I should try eating something healthy instead of just sneaking candies between meals. Surely that would forestall the grim march of Sickness into my dormitory. Hmm.
