I KNEW SIGNING UP FOR who_remix  WAS A STUPID IDEA. WHY DIDN'T YOU ALL TALK ME OUT OF IT. NEVER MIND THAT I ASKED YOU TO TALK ME INTO IT, SHUT UP.

Anyway, I need help. Nonspecific help (though I do need that, but I can't talk about it because that would be missing the point of Remixing and all), but rather critical help nonetheless as it affects the story.

1. Up to you. I've seen both. I find standalones more satisfying and I know they get more comments, but I know that when I remix I definitely have that foreknowledge in my head - how can you not? - and it definitely influences the standalone quality.

2. Like biichan said, nope! It can be whatever you like. Once I stole a line from the original to use but otherwise I've made up my own.

3. I know the remix-redux rules deal with this specifically somewhere. I think the main gist is you can't change the pairing if it's pairing-centric, and especially can't, say, make a het pairing slash or a slash pairing het. But I've never seen a problem with adding extra pairings, though if it's for the main pairing characters I wouldn't make it of a different genre than it is originally (ie I wouldn't add in a het pairing, even off screen unless it's explicitly canon, for a slash fic). I don't know if that made sense, I hope it did?

Good luck! It'll go better than you think it will, honest. And if the fic isn't the best at the end anyway, that's ok too - remix is a challenge, not an exchange, not really, and half of the point is taking a risk. I think dropping out of a remix challenge is the worst one to drop out of because they are no set standards - you just give it a try and if it doesn't work, try again next time. :)

1. There's only a little bit I'd had to rewrite if I wanted the remix to stand on its own (specifically, dialogue that was in the original story that still needs to be there for the story to make sense), so I might as well make it stand on its own anyway.

3. I can't remember what the remix-redux rules are specifically, but I did remember "don't change a pairing" - which I'm not going to, nor do I intend to add pairings of other categories, but since the other pairings were probably going to be background at best and likely anecdotal within the context of the story, I wasn't sure where they fell in the definition. And yeah, that made sense aplenty.

I'm more worried about not getting it finished than it sucking, tbh. Although I'm also worried because the story as I've outlined it (and outlining is all I've done, wah) is sort of meandering and biographic and goes nowhere and is all about ~relationships~ which doesn't feel right to me for this story and I feel a bit out of my depth. I'd prefer not to drop out if I can because I don't want to add Remix to the long, long list of ficathons I've dropped out of, plus it means I can't participate in future remixes on the off-chance that I learn to write consistently again.

Thanks for the help. *hugs you*
