Since Travis and I are leaving in 3 weeks, we decided to go places that we've wanted to see since we got here. Today we decided to go to Panama City and Tyndall AFB. Hmmm, what a joke. I've always been told that if I go to Panama City, I should take a certain road to get there. Normally you just hop on Hwy. 98 and go straight to, but there is a County Road that drives by the Gulf. That was probably the best idea that I had today. It took longer to get to Panama City, but it was way worth it. Unfortunately we didn't stop anywhere on that road and I didn't bring my camera, so I didn't get any pictures. They had TONS of cool houses along the water. They were all pastel colors and 3-4 stores tall with lookouts on the roofs. There is a town called Seaside along the way... Anyone remember the Jim Carrey movie called "The Truman Show"? If you do, this is the town where it was filmed. As we drove through, it was sooo surreal because you seemed like you were in the movie. I'm going to try to go back because there were a lot of things to see and hopefully I'll get some pictures before we leave. We got to Panama City Beach, and I was thinking, this is nice..... Well, I was totally wrong. The "Beach" is where all the tourists go, so yeah, its kept up fairly well. Panama City on the other hand... it was a real $_ _ _ hole. It was soo dirty and it smelled BAD in some areas. When you drive through "Gasoline Alley" (Roxana, Hartford, etc.), the smell there really stinks.... That is nothing compared to Panama City. As we are driving up to Tyndall AFB, it was really nice. Again, assumed wrong. The base was ran down and the amenities were very sub-standard. And they want to close Scott AFB down... They should think again and close Tyndall. After we were done at Tyndall, which we were only there 20 min, we got on the Hwy. and headed home. The sad thing is, we spent more time driving there than we spent there.
