if i could describe work today in one word it would be "hellacious"
fridays are obviously very different from weekdays. the last coupla days i worked were pretty relaxed,i had time to take smoke breaks at my lesiure and even got a couple of sketches done. but today was NON-STOP. after we were closed I still had dishes that had been there since before I even came in. it was insane. and just when i could see the end and i was finally starting to catch up (at about eleven oclock) guess what happened.
no go on guess.
ok i'll tell you.
the mother fucking grease trap to the sink drain overflowed. what a fantastic design this thing is. it collects all the grease and shit that goes through the sink. and when it's full it doesn't tell you, it just backs up and flows out onto the floor of the dishroom. so there I am working my ass off, trying to get the fuck outta there when all of a sudden i look down and i'm standing in a sea of the nastiest substances you have ever seen. i'm talking bout chicken fat, rice, refried beans, soggy tortillas, chicken bones (i shit you not), and other solids too disgusting to identify, all floating in a thick brown, bubbly grease solution. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
on an upside, Garrett Prince is aptly named. He was cooking and he could have left at about 10:45. instead he stayed and helped me with the mountain of dishes AND emptied the grease trap. (i only had to clean the floor with a towel and my bare hands). we both got done at about 12:30.
my feet hurt so fucking bad.
so i hope you found my story of work as exciting as i found it excrutiating.
and the best part?
i get to go back TOMMOROW!
(post script)
actually one good thing happened at work. the world cafe on WNCW had the band Garbage live in the studio. they played some songs from their new cd and they were really fucking good. i've always KINDA liked that band but after hearing them today i really like them. i want their new cd badly.
