IM Client Survey

Jul 30, 2006 22:34

Yes, for the third or fourth time in a few years I'm thinking about making an IM client in C#. This time it seems that I have a decent protocol implementation to work on (OscarLib licensed under the LGPL) so it might be more possible. I'm aiming for a light/thin client (I hate bloat), but need to know what people like in a client. So, please leave some feedback in a reply and feel free to get other people to respond!

0) What OS and AIM client are you currently using?

1) What core functionality do you expect out of an IM client?

2) What are the five to ten most important features to you?

3) What are your feelings on the following: The ability to split into multiple tab groups (horizontally or vertically) in the same window (or perhaps even different windows). This would allow you to see multiple IMs at the same time. Is it necessary or is it just bloat? It would obviously be one of the more challenging parts, so would it be worth it? How would you rate its importance on a scale of 1-10?

4) Any other comments/suggestions? Interested in helping?
