I decided to buy a car after I graduated from University as a present for myself. It was an interesting search for the car I would put down such a huge sum of money for. When I began the search I looked at every car that I could see myself enjoying. I ended up with two cars, the Subaru Impreza and the Mitsubishi Lancer.
The Mitsubishi Lancer had a great styling with its sedan body and aggressive front end. The most appealing part of the Lancer for me was the fact that it had everything standard. The base model had everything I wanted and it was a zippy ride to boot. The Subaru Impreza had one overwhelming factor, all wheel drive. For a moderate price, you get the safety and, when winter rolls around, convenience of the AWD. I settled on and negotiated for the Impreza but it didn't turn out the way I wanted. The price they offered was too high for what I felt I was getting. So I continued looking.
I began looking at greener cars to accompany my new green perspective on life. I looked at a much wider range of cars than I did when I decided on the Impreza and Lancer. I considered every brand that offered a hybrid vehicle. I looked at the Camry Hybrid, Altima Hybrid, Civic Hybrid and Saturn Aura. After reading reviews on all the vehicles, I decided that the Camry Hybrid was the best option all round. It had great mileage and didn't sacrifice the power for it.
I test drove the vehicle and found it very satisfying. The cabin was comfortable for all the passengers. The layout of the vehicle was very similar to that of the Rav 4, which I have become accustomed to. I took it on the road and found that the wind noise was fairly loud but it just resembled what I heard during my trip to Calgary, which was tolerable. What was concerning was the meter that told me how efficient I was on fuel. For most of the ride I was still burning lots of gas, never did I remain in the portion of the meter that indicated I was only using the electric engine.
So, I had all but purchased the Camry Hybrid. And once again, it came down to price, which was ~$33k. That put me at the limit of what I could spend. I wouldn't have any money left and that was concerning. I felt very uneasy spending that much money on my car. I ended up asking about (wait for it...) the Prius.
I was totally shocked with myself, as with my mom. I've been talking smack about the Prius ever since it came out. I adamantly pointed out that I wanted a car that I felt good being seen in and the Prius never fulfilled those requirements. But with my recent color change, being seen in a green car could not make me any prouder. The mileage on the Prius is even better than the Camry. I would save around $6k by changing my car choice. The reasoning all came together and the Prius seemed like the right car to buy. I absolutely could not see it coming but I put a down payment on the last 2008 Prius that the dealership was getting. It will be arriving in early September and I will be a proud new owner of a magnetic grey Prius.
