Resisting Temptation

This time of year is the worst time of year for my pocket book. Every company in the universe decides that its a good idea to release everything I want in a narrow time frame. For games, starting a month or two ago all the good games flow out like a waterfall. I've already bought Bioshock and Halo 3. Games already out and that I want are Orange Box, Stranglehold and Guitar Hero 3. On the horizon is still Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, Army of Two and more.

On the tv front, loads of dvds are released before the new season of shows start a couple months ago. They'll be more before the January start of other shows such as Battlestar Galactica. I've managed to stay away from most of them since I haven't watched much tv and I've distracted myself with Ultimate Fighter (a tv show in itself, I know). But I've finished all my Ultimate Fighter seasons and I've recently been introduced to 30 Rock and the new season of House looks interesting so I want to catch up on that.

I'm going to make a resolution. I won't buy any of this stuff until after Christmas. If not for school (because I don't really care about school) then for other logical reasons. During the Christmas season, everything stays expensive. People will buy regardless of price because its the season of giving, which coincides with the season of buying. Immediately afterwards prices are cut for Boxing day and to encourage sales during the post spending frenzy. The quality of enjoyment will not degrade over time, so I'm not really losing anything by getting it later. Who can play a dozen games or watch a dozen tv seasons so fast anyways. And I'll have stuff to keep me busy throughout the rest of the year. It was pretty brutal last year, buying dvd sets just because I was bored. I don't want to return to my sad little self that I've fought to overcome this past year.

So no spending. Okay, maybe I'll buy Tomb Raider Anniversary but that's it. And maybe a couple XBox Live games. That's all. Oh and if they come out with the new limited edition of the DS. I swear that's all.

tv, games
