Got back from seeing
Nightwish in Orlando a little while ago. I was very impressed with the show. It was a fairly small venue but it was packed wall to wall. The new female singer,
Anette Olzon is a really good fit for the band. She doesn't have the same vocal range as
Tarja did, but they still did a lot of old songs and she sang them well, didn't hit all the high notes so it sounded a little different, but still good. Her accent isn't as thick and her English is a lot easier to understand.
They did a lot of joking around on stage, at one point they said "OK everyone, it's near the end of the show, so we're going to do that rock band thing where we act like this is our last song, and we go back stage and pretend to leave until you all yell really loud for more, then we come back and play some stuff we'd already planned to play from the beginning and you act surprised." It looked like they were having a fun time, and the audience was packed with hardcore fans who had driven from all over Florida to be there. Probably one of the best concerts I've been to.
I actually went with some people I met randomly on Facebook who lived in the area. They just sent out a message to everyone who was in Gainesville and had Nightwish as an interest to start a carpool for the concert. I probably wouldn't have made a long drive like that alone, so that was good, and they turned out to be a lot of fun too.
I locked my keys in my car and had to call a towing company to come open my car for the second time this week though ='(
