Who Fic: Mystery

Title: Mystery
Characters/Pairing: The Doctor, his TARDIS
Rating: G
No spoilers.
Length: 100 words. I may not be worthy of bearing the aribtrarabble torch. Written during fic_rush Round 1 (which is still going, by the way). I should probably thank dragonessa24 for helping me settle on a name, and mention glinda_penguin, who got me thinking on the Doctor's age by writing an arbitrable about it.

For all he plays up his age when he wants to impress a companion, the Doctor does not actually think of himself as old. A millennium of life (give or take) is not enough to imply a long and mysterious past; any sane Time Lord the Doctor's age would still be on his second or third regeneration. To a Time Lord, "ancient" implies more digits.

Type-40 TARDISes were built to last, and the Doctor's was nearly dying of old age when he found her. He lies awake imagining the adventures she must have had before they met. She isn't telling.
