So... my previous post was supposed to help me distance myself from this fandom (just for this month so I could focus on schoolwork and work-work and my family and all the shopping involved with this silly ritual called Christmas...)

Needless to say, it didn't work.

Title: Incomplete

Summary: 428 words, prompt: 016. Peace

Imperfect things.

They’re not meant for each other and this is not true love.

It’s about completion of the body, not completion of the soul. They’re not two halves of one whole.

Solace, not hope. Solace from the knowledge that they can never have what they truly want, that the Other is gone and that forever really wasn’t very long at all, that Mokuba is his brother and that he can’t (could never) corrupt that purity. But not hope.

Never hope.

They’re too lost and alone for that.

It could be worse though- at least the sex is good. At least they have that rudimentary comfort provided by each other’s presence, and that sweet (though always far too short), oblivion that accompanies orgasm.

At least Kaiba doesn’t mind that he’s got spiky, brightly-colored hair in Yuugi’s eyes, and at least Yuugi doesn’t mind that Kaiba’s favorite thing about him is how similar his body type is to Mokuba’s.

It could be so much worse.

Because they might not have hope, but at least they don’t have despair.

Most days, anyway.

Though they both of course have those days every couple of weeks where maybe Kaiba doesn’t bother coming home from work or decides to throw Yuugi out because he doesn’t need this (though that conviction never lasts more than an hour or two, and Yuugi always comes back). Those days where Yuugi doesn’t get out of bed for a whole day, wallowing beneath heavy quilts in his self pity until Kaiba gets fed up and either fucks him senseless or drags him bodily from bed and makes him shower and eat, all the while insisting (not-so-convincingly) that he doesn’t give a damn about Yuugi.

They’re imperfect. This is imperfect.

Perfect would be them curled together to watch movies or the stars. Would be those small looks and touches that say what sometimes words simply can’t. Would be Kaiba coming home from work early enough to cook dinner for Yuugi, would be Yuugi taking care of Kaiba when he finally works himself into exhaustion and then sickness.

But that’s not how it goes.

What they have is not perfect.

Imperfect and they hate more than they love, more even than they want (but not more than they need, or this wouldn’t be happening), and they glare more than they smile. Imperfect and the world generally feels like it’s falling to pieces about their ears and there’s not a single fucking thing they can do about it.

Imperfect, and everything is not okay.

Imperfect, and it’s never going to be.
