It's Cataclysm time!
And Jaina Proudmoore will be updating, but only a little.
When I apped Jaina, I chose to draw her from before the end of the conflict with Arthas in Northrend, because...well I'd had a potential Arthas apper. That's pretty clearly not happening now, so oh well. If someone decides to app Arthas later things can still be played in an interesting way. XD
Jaina will be moving up to The Shattering, the WoW novel that explains a lot of the changes being made by Blizzard, bridging the gap between the end of the conflict in Northrend and the beginning of the new conflict. Because Cataclysm is very much OH SHIT SUDDENLY THERE IS A DRAGON.
This point strikes me as a good medium between moving forward with canon without attempting to account for a lot of stuff I'm still kind of unfamiliar with, because my WoW playing time has been somewhat lacking lately and I still haven't adjusted to the new setting. It gives Jaina an idea of "There's some real trouble afoot!" without giving her that "OH SHIT I NEED TO BE BACK IN AZEROTH YESTERDAY" problem.
Incidentally, I applaud Christie Golden for her handling of The Shattering. Her work on Rise of the Lich King wasn't bad, but contained some lolarious poor narrative choices. Her new work didn't seem to have that problem (though it did take Anduin painfully long to figure out to use his hearthstone to get out of Ironforge).
