Just a couple thoughts...
Maybe the reason that so many people believe in God and that we go somewhere after we die is because for a lot of people, it's not easy to believe that when we are finished living our lives, we all go to the same place. I mean, I overheard some guys at work talking the other day about life after death and they aren't religious at all, but they made such a good point that it made me reconsider it as well.
But really, is it fair that the people who lived their lives like saints go to the exact same place as the serial killers and such? Maybe we don't go anywhere at all when we die, but if we did, isn't it better for some people to believe that the people who did wrong in their life pay for it?
Maybe we are reincarnated as something else in the next life. Those who did wrong are brought back as a rat or something, or as someone who dies a death like they inflicted, but is that even fair seeing as if we are reincarnated, we don't remember?
Anyways... these were just random thoughts...
