Car Magnet

My Obama-Biden car magnet arrived -- finally! long story -- on Tuesday, and while displaying it means I must drive with extra care, lest anyone perceive me to behave like a jerk and then associate my mistake with the candidates, I am enthusiastic about it, for both the message and the medium.

The magnet adheres well to the car, and yet peels right off with not the slightest damage or residue.  It is superior to a bumper sticker in every way (except that it cannot go on my actual bumper, as my car's bumper, like most these days, is plastic).  I think that we ought to go this direction for most, if not all, message-bearing bumper stickers, so that they can be periodically refreshed with ease and grace, instead of with a chisel and touch-up paint.

I've long thought of getting a custom bumper sticker saying, "Read. Think. Vote."  (Sometimes I favor "Read. Think. Pray. Vote.", but three is punchier than four.)  I like the idea of it on a magnet even better, as I could then easily replace it if a wiser inspiration came along.

Granted, car magnets could be very easily stolen, while traditional bumper stickers are nigh impossible to remove.  (Speaking of potentially stolen political messaging, I saw a man putting up a "Yes on 8" sign at the on-ramp the other day, next to another political sign about local measures.  The next morning, "Yes on 8" was gone, but the other sign remained.  While I oppose 8, of course -- no amending the state constitution to institutionalize discrimination! egad -- I hope he just picked another location for it, and no one stole it.  That would be wrong.  Leave the bad behavior to the bad guys.)
