Ok, so "indie" kids (formerly "emo" kids)don't seem to like to admit to listening to metal music. I suppose maybe they don't like having anything in common with 'metal kids'...who I must admit, really are very low forms of people in most cases. However, many metal bands have sprung up as of late consisting of "indie" kids. "Indie" kids enjoy listening to them, but again, don't want to be thought of as "metal kids" . To combat this they add the suffix: core to the genre or sometimes even make claims that the music is in fact 'hardcore' not 'metal'. Anything 'core' is acceptable so therefore they can justify listening to 'metalcore' or even just plain old 'hardcore'

I'm not excluding myself from this entirely, I just find it interesting
