things i don't have occasion to say every day, and other stuff

Me: A guy just walked by and I'd swear it was Dean X, except he was wearing pants.
ROG: Hm. Maybe it was laundry day.

I didn't mention it at the time, but Dean X was also wearing a shirt with a collar (a polo, not one of them fancy button-downs). For a man who's usually in cargo shorts and t-shirts, this is quite something.

In other news, attended the Desert Dance Festival with Queen B over the weekend. Had a great amount of fun. She is now in love with Zahra Zuhair. A woman with a fun flirty dance style who wore a dress that perfectly outlined her butt cheeks. Queen B swooned every time she turned around. Sadly, she may have to wait a year to see her again, as Zahra is based in LA.

My favorite dancer of the show was Yolanda, and she's local! And just beautiful, beautiful dancer but also just beautiful to look at. I loved her facial expressions. She wasn't one to smile all the time, but I didn't find her standoffish, and then when she did smile it was just so sweet. (Another woman, one of Yolanda's first teachers, mentioned that she had been so shy when she first started dancing, and then it made sense that she wasn't an ever-present smiler.)

Yolanda's daughter, LuLu danced as well. I liked her performance, and she's also pretty, but I didn't put them together as mother and daughter until someone mentioned it at the end. LuLu is biracial, I guess--it was nice to see another black woman on the stage--and like a foot taller than her mom.

I didn't make it to the second day of DDF. I took the car in for an oil change, during which they let me know that there was windshield wiper fluid in the radiator. I called dad and he was like, "What? That's not possible. Must be indicative of a larger problem. I'll take a look at it."

Sometime later he remembered that he was actually the one who'd accidentally put the washer fluid in the radiator. He'd just forgotten until then. Then he had to figure out a way of getting it out. Then mom came over and they were both out there working on it. Then, when they were almost done, dad accidentally dropped the radiator cap into the engine. And then we were all three out there--mom with a big stick, dad with a car jack, me with a flashlight and greasy hands--searching the street, the lawn, the engine compartment looking for this missing part. Dad eventually borrowed the radiator cap from the Honda et voila: a temporary solution was in place.

This weekend, I am dancing. Queen B will be in attendance. And she came to class this week, which was nice. She mentioned that Saida is thinking of returning. She's put her job search on hold and just wants some normalcy after her recent tragedy. It'll be good to see her.
