the verdict on today's cake

I asked people to try each element--almond-flavored mousseline buttercream, vanilla cake, and orange curd filling--separately, and then together, and let me know their thoughts on each.

Thumbs-up all 'round. ROG thought the orange curd could've had a stronger flavor, but Super liked it as-is. LeRoi liked the buttercream, despite not being a frosting person. This was the cake that was refrigerated, not frozen, still the texture seemed to be okay.

So... this was meant to be a test cake, but the response was positive enough that I may end up duplicating this one exactly. (Don't know what that'll mean for the idea of a lemon cake with white chocolate-lime curd filling and, perhaps, a mint-lime buttercream. I guess the apricot-almond cake might fall off the map unless I can get the idea of it to gel in my head.)

Anyway, here are some pics.

In other news, it appears that I have missed the season for violas and pansies. So I may end up decorating the cake with nasturtiums. And maybe piping on some floral designs. We'll see.
