learned something new [sports engineering]

I'm at the station now, covering the first portion of a basketball game until someone else gets here. Everything seemed to be fine during pre-game, but right as the game began the vector connection started dropping out. The CE had already left, but one of the junior engineers (students, minions, whatever you want to call them... this particular one is the blond fellow with the asymmetrical haircut who's always flipping his hair out of his eyes... I have heard his name, but don't remember it) walked in just as the problem started.

So, what I learned:

When the vector keeps re-training, it could mean that there's too much data for the phone line to handle. So one way to [try to] fix the problem is to hit the drop rate button on the vector. This lessens the amount of data traveling through the line. Sound quality won't be as good, but at least you'll have a stable line.

Knock on wood, so far so good. If the line drops out again, I'm to text the sports guys. They'll plug into an alternate line right quick and then I'll try dialing in anew.

The lady who'll be coming in to cover the rest of the game is new to sports engineering. The sports guy asked me to make sure she's up to speed on everything. So... yeah. I'll be handing her a post-it with both numbers written on it, giving her a quick tour of the patch bay, and pointing her in the direction of the blond fellow.

Side-note: I'm really tickled that I've had so many (or at least any) learning experiences this week. Some weeks ago, I had the horrible experience of realizing that I'd learned nothing new in that 5-day period. I felt so dull.
