puzzle

I have just received what I think is the fourth call (second in the past few weeks) from Megan with Citibank, calling for c*.  Calling my cell phone looking for c*, to be precise.  (If she'd called the home phone that would make more sense, but that's not a number that anyone who knows me would expect me to answer these days.)

As usual, I just said he wasn't available and offered to take a message.  Usually, she just leaves her name and number and I forward it to him via text message or email.  Today, with no prompting, she laid out more details of why she was calling.  And sounded really anxious to get hold of him.  I wasn't sure if that was frustration that he never seems to answer this line or what.  I guess it's possible that she's really eager to help him out, but that seems such an unlikely mindset for a bank employee.

What I found strangest: she mentioned that he was in the branch just last week (which is about when I sent him the last message from her).  So why didn't he give her his cell number?  Or maybe she does have his number but calls mine as a backup?

Now that I'm thinking about it, it is true that friends/family used to call me when looking for c* because:

(a) I usually answered my phone; he often didn't.
(b) He would go weeks without checking his voicemail.
(c) If they left the message with me they could be certain he'd get it, and could reasonably hope for a call back.

Still, I wouldn't expect his bank to have twigged to this.  Especially since the concept is several years out of date.  A small part of me wonders if Megan is a whackaloon who has a crush on him.  (A smaller part wonders if the bank Jeanne works for just happens to be Citibank.)

miscellany, ponderings
