This morning I woke to find myself still too lazy to go to the gym (haven't been since Sunday). Instead I went to the web site of my old capoeira school,
Capoeira of San Jose, reminded myself of the basic movements, and practiced a bit at home.
Why it occurred to me to do this:
during TKB class a few weeks ago, the teacher had us do a kind of windmill movement. I just went along with what she did, not really listening to what she was saying. But after a while it clicked. This strange, windmilling, clown-like movement she was having us do, she called it the ginga.
At that point, I had to get all um... name some haughty know-it-all character from a dance movie and that would be me, talking to the instructor in my head, being all "That is not how you do the ginga. THIS is how you do the ginga."
(This reminds me to mention that I also found and played some capoeira music in the library during last Saturday's show. I'll probably never learn to play the berimbau, but I do like the sound of it.)
Anyway.
Practicing this morning was fun. I completely suck, but the trying was nice.
