To jump straight to the summation...
I am really tired of hearing "You're a great dancer. But if I may make one tiny suggestion... smile more."
Smiling and eye contact (dance)
Friendliness in person and on the phone (work)
My weaknesses. Not performance, but appearance. I'm not sure how to get around to feeling comfortable expressing friendliness. Or to feeling comfortable faking the expression of friendliness (e.g. maintaining a fake smile after the real one has faded while posing for photos).
Perhaps I've chosen too friendly an activity. I've already figured that I'd probably be happiest outside of a customer service position, or if my customers at least never came into the office, but only popped up on a computer screen via IM or something. Maybe I should think similarly about dance and find a form that's less reliant on the happy smiling countenance.
This is one of those days where I feel like maybe I just don't know how to relate to people. That is one of those projects that I want to just jump straight to the conclusion of. I don't want to do all those in-between steps, all that "work" part.
Anyway.
I made mistakes in every single dance. And I was late to the event. On the plus side, I was able to provide baked goods* and a video camera. And people claimed not to notice the mistakes.
On a semi-related note, I finally washed my sink-ful of dishes today.
winterredwood was able to attend, and took photos, and commented that those photos would soon be all over Facebook. So I cursed her.
Me: If you have any moles, they will now become hairy.
W: Whoa. That's harsh.
Really? Aren't hairy moles relatively common? If not, I'll have to come up with a less doom-y curse.
( * = I woke up early this morning and baked before yoga, Devil's Food cake and banana bread, box mixes because I'd decided to be more pragmatic than usual. As a touch of personalization, I'd decided to add chocolate chips to the banana bread. That may be one reason why it didn't come out of the pan nicely. I discovered that upon returning from yoga. Couldn't bear to serve it, so made shortbread instead, from scratch. That's part of what set me back time-wise. Rounded out the menu with oatmeal cranberry cookies, pre-fab frozen dough.)
