First of all, let me introduce you to
The Stranger in the Alps.
Today, I have used my extra hour to not write application forms, but to do some laundry, start a new weekly ritual, read a book, fall asleep on the couch and share the idea of smashing the skull of a zombie robot hobo with the business end of a parking meter.
Hockey
Yesterday, we had an early hockey match in Dundee. For a change, we actually won. 7-0. I was left back in the first half and had almost nothing to do defensively. In the second half, I had to umpire. Thank God I was umpiring our half, and therefore had very little to do, since most of the match was spent around their goal. I don't want to say anything more about umpiring, save that I don't ever want to do it again. Still, it was nice to win.
Careers
I'm looking at application forms/CVs and letters for Borders and a place called Insights, where I would be a Learning Consultant for other companies' people. It has an emphasis on Jungian ideas (which I need to learn about) and has an odd fixation with only working with leading companies (as defined by the sector and locale) which strikes me as a bit fanboy-ish and not conducive to growing the business.
There's also a Modern Studies job going in my school, but I really don't think that I want to teach any more. Not schoolkids at least. I don't like it, I'm not appreciated by the kids and I could do without the hassle.
Of course, this is all moot unless I actually get my backside in gear and write a letter of application. Even better, I don't have a printer here, so I'll have to go to school/the library to get my things printed out.
Books
My book for book club this month is Memoirs and confessions of a justified sinner. Five times I've sat down to read it. Four times, I've fallen asleep. I'm not going to be able to get it finished. It's not an easy read and right now I'm not sure what's going on. There are some parts where it's really hard to work out the author's meaning, or which character is which.
As I said at the beginning, do you want to see
an Asian-American speed freak break robot zombie hobos skulls with the business end of a parking meter.. It's from Matt Fraction's The Order #3, and it's ace.
