See, I thought that too, but the birds very definitely did not have featherless heads. Not like the pictures that I'm seeing on Wiki and on the site you provided. I mean, its possible that they do actually grow them for winter or something (and I did find pictures of some vultures that have feathered heads - although they are more "fuzzy" looking plumage). So...yeah. Anyway.

Maybe someone on the internet is wrong.
