Success: estimated 85%
Details: As usual, Buy Nothing Day was subject to needing to eat, so Mel & I bought lunch. This is usually a negligible factor in BND, and does not contribute to the percentile.
Diminished success in BND participation was due to shopping for unfinished linens for our domesticated animals (Dog towels) along with some furniture for the house. Protests were lodged in regard to the necessity for said furniture (bookshelves), but these protests were filed as counterproductive as said protests concluded in a diplomatic breakdown between domestic partners. Minor items of serving ware and fixtures intended for wall coverings were also obtained. Total figure: around $106.00 after tax, $60.00 of which were bookshelves.
The remainder of the day was spent sleeping and performing minor tasks. No significant additional expendures during BND proper.
Rationale: 15% degree of compliance failure assigned.
1. Purchases were not intended as gifts and would have been justifiable as regular household expenses or anticipated renovation expenses allowable under any other purchasing period (5.0% deduction)
2. Purchases were made at a Category 1 chain retailer (IKEA), no advanced premeditation or shopping design in effect (X3 percentile multiplier).
Supplimental Report: Expanded BND Activity
Purchases: Flight Volume 1 & 2 (at Half-Price Books); wall hanging (50.0% off, $10.00) & set of nostalgic teacups at thrift store, lunches, dinners, groceries.
