Mother Mary, pray for me...I started playing WoW.
Now, it's not so unbelievable. Much like plenty of other things, I have put off joining the bandwagon until its axles have broken and is sitting in the mud with nowhere to go - that's just how I am. I don't usually just get on board with something. But I am a long-time RPGer, and a long-time console RPG'er. Morgan told me, lo upon 2003 or so, that he felt it was the RPG we had been waiting our whole lives for. But being as I couldn't afford the time sink and wasn't sure how I'd explain to Mel about paying for a subscription, and the whole thing seemed a little too fannish, I never did it. Then it sort of became a point of pride that I was resisting, tolerating the debates and discussions, & swimming through the jargon as much as I could with lofty disdain.
Well, fuck. It was two or three in the morning on Saturday and my curiousity had already crept into my dreams once, so I asked Morgan how to roll a character for the game. He cackled madly between grimy, blackened teeth and gleefully showed me to my doom. This was after a moderate session of tabletop gaming, mind you, so I was in the mindset anyway, and I wasn't all that tired. Think I went to bed around 8:00AM.
So, yeah. *scuffs dirt with foot* Anyway. Undead Mage. Yup, I'm rollin' Horde, cause I like zombie spellcasters and squishing filtdee hoomans. Her name's Ebriel and I tried to make her as nasty-looking as possible. The result sort of cried out: "I'LL SWALLOW YOUR SOUL!"
Ahem. Woot.
Anyway. Yes, I'm tabletop gaming still. I actually started up a game with a rather surprisingly small group who worked amazingly well together. Two Veteran RPers and one novice who does a damn good job in her RP (which is more important than her befuddlement with game systems). So, that was cool. Next week, we're back to Morgan's game, which should be interesting.
Further dorkdom; in fact: the crushing, all-singing, all-dancing, all-consuming quantum singularity of hard SF dorkitude...I downloaded EVE online.
Don't give me that look. It was quid pro quo since Morgan was letting me use his WoW Account. He's been chewing his knuckles and haunting the EVE forums for months. He would have already been on it if it was compatible with Mac. And in any case, he put up the 20 bucks for the month's worth of subscription.
I'll say this: it's pretty. Someone's momma is awful proud of their boy, looking at the complexity and detail on a lot of this. I'm betting they feel a little sheepish in retrospect about having given him crap about staying inside all day reading and not going out and playing with all the "normal" kids.
Speaking of which, I should at some point go outside.
Yeah, so other activities and life likely on hold for a while. More so, the writing, which has become derailed after I discovered the
TV Tropes Wiki (which also extends to video games, comic books, film, and literature). This demoralized me, since I have realized that Donegal is
Cursed with Awesome.
Now I pout.
-12th.
