Today I took the time to go walk in the woods. In my world this also means Grouse hunting season, orange attire and a shotgun. There are still things that have not changed. Ground is not flat unless someone runs a bulldozer over it. Hunting with out a dog is a low percentage activity. Grouse can run thru aspen thickets much faster than I can try to outflank them and they fly away three feet off the ground with trees in the way. Woodcock are really small and have the most amazingly non-linear flight path.
All in all it was a perfect day. The weather was beautiful for late October there was hardly any wind. I saw stuff. I probably walked a good seven or eight miles in heavy cover with sticks hitting me in the face almost every step. The water was pretty high since the storm on Tuesday was a pretty good one. Most of the snow had melted but there was enough that it felt like walking in the snow.
It's a good sort of tired.
