Sometimes it is good to have the high ground when you live in an apartment, and I mean that literally.
Case in point: tonight I came home to discover that my downstairs neighbor is having another party. In general I'm OK with that. What I'm not OK with is hearing the loud rhythmic, "Do..thump, thump! Do..thump, thump!" of her music accompanied by occasional loud laughter at 10:30 pm on a *Thursday* night. In the past I would either put up with it or go downstairs, knock loudly on her door and ask them to turn down their music. They would then turn it down some and the party would go on at a more reasonable pace. This is always the pattern.
I decided that I was tired of my inconsiderate neighbor so my response on this occasion was childish. However the results were pleasantly satisfying. Instead of walking downstairs I decided to take advantage of the high ground and proceeded to pound on my floor with the 'hammer side' of a hatchet (I used to have a fireplace). After giving them two rounds of about seven knocks each the music got turned down and there was a thumping against my floor/her ceiling. However, the music stayed stopped and I could hear several people leave. I think they took the party elsewhere. Now there is blissful silence. This neighbor works a different shift than I do so we don't see each other coming and going. I'm pretty certain she doesn't know what car I drive. Furthermore, I am moving towards the end of the month into a house. If I have trouble with a downstairs neighbor's party after I move into the house...well, then I'll have bigger concerns than just the noise.
Childish? Yes
Effective? Very
Potential for revenge? Yes
Satisfying? HELL YES
PS I have to wonder if they damaged the drywall with whatever they pounded on her ceiling with?
