I promised myself that when I got about halfway through the poem prompts from my last Poetry Kitchen, I'd start on the third incentive: the long poem.
So, you guys get to pick the form!
I'm offering to write an ode, a ballad, or a saga.
An Ode is 30 lines. 10 lines of "on the one hand", 10 lines of "on the other hand", and 10 lines of "in conclusion". I would be sticking close to hexameter for it. Good for cyclical stories or mulling over thoughts.
A Ballad is a rhyming poem with lots of four line verses, telling a story. I would be using 8/8 or 8/6 form, so the end result should be singable. (Gilligan's Isle is written in 8/8 form. So is Amazing Grace.)
A Saga is a story written in alliterative verse, like Beowulf. 'Nuff said.
Poll Poem Type
Feel free to suggest themes and give prompts for the poem! Please do so. I'll collect those that best fit the poem form chosen and put up another poll later. Only donors will be able to vote on the theme, but anybody can make suggestions here.
