The truck part is hilarious. Is Obama really so detached from normal life that he assumes that the main reason someone buys a pickup truck is to make a statement? Or are his speechwriters? Or just his audience?
Yes, he is; Yes, they are; No, they're not, but he doesn't realize that.
It fits, though. All throughout his campaign, I was struck with the impression that he would say literally anything to get himself elected. Now that he's got the job, that sort of chicanery method doesn't work as well, but he hasn't really got anything else to go on, does he? He can only play the part of the charismatic speaker to the hilt, and (purely in my opinion, we'll see if history bears me out) in three years, he'll be thanked for giving his time to serve his country and told that his services are no longer required.
One could hope that he might learn from the successive failures of his attempts to endorse candidates and major actions, though I'd recommend anyone doing so to avoid holding their breath in anticipation.
