Tiny Accomplishment

So when I went to the doctor a few weeks ago, I was a little disappointed to learn that I weigh the same as in May; the last time I went to the doctor, and when I really started going to the gym. Really!?!?! Yes, I understand that you build up muscle before you can start loosing weight, but how frustrating! I don't feel that I go overboard with what I eat, so it was a little disheartening. In the past 6 weeks, I've really stepped up my cardio, too. I've been walking home from work nearly every single day (a good 3 miles) now that the weather has been bearable. I've also worked my way up to running 2 miles non-stop. There's more that I do, but I just haven't seen a lot of results. However, tonight, I think I finally hit some sort of goal tonight, albeit a small accomplishment.

I've been running outside along the Mall, which is just over 2 miles with the route I take. I've averaged running 11-minute miles while on the tread-mill, but take my time when running outside. But tonight was a nice night for my run. There are always a lot of runners along the Mall, and just as I was getting started, I noticed a male jogger who was going at about my pace. Just as I started thinking that we'd be running the same pace the entire time, I noticed that I was going slightly faster. But then, we get to one of the only intersections on the Mall and were forced to stop. Seeing as it was rush hour, I decided to wait it out till the traffic cleared. But the male jogger dashed out into traffic and made it across the road. From that moment, it was SO ON. I vowed to catch up to him and out-pace him once again, because it felt kind of nice to out-pace someone for like the first time since my middle school cross country days. The male jogger got a full 30 seconds ahead of me before I was able to cross the street. It seemed like he was going to take the same route as me, and so I kept at a pace that felt good. And you know what? I caught up with him AND passed him! Grant it, that didn't happen till closer to the end of the route, but with just keeping at a pace that felt comfortable to me, I was able to pass this guy and win the imaginary race.

So, I may still weigh the same. But! I DO know that I have way more energy, and that apparently my cardio is improving. And while I would still like to shed a few pounds, I feel comfortable with how I look. And that's what really matters, right?
