People are constantly coming and going in DC. Any given moment is a chance to meet someone who has just moved to the District, but then turn around and have a goodbye happy hour for another friend. It's the nature of the city for people to constantly come and go. I've had to say goodbye to my fair share of people since living out here, but tonight was one of the hardest goodbyes. My good friend, Geneva, heads back to home Oklahoma tomorrow before pursuing her PhD in England this fall. Geneva and I met at the museum, and by twist of fate, often worked together at events and giving tours. On down times, we would watch Ironed Jawed Angels, or entertain ourselves at slow events by teaching members of Congress to do the Charleston. Geneva has been my partner in crime in this city, for some of my happiest memories, and most hilarious moments, have happened with her by my side. She's been an awesome friend, and tonight I had to say goodbye. We both got a bit teary eyed, but I know it won't be the last time we see each other. It's like all the other goodbyes I've had to say to my dear friends: it's only good bye for now.
It just makes me so incredibly thankful to have such amazing friends in my life. My closest friends all live hundreds of miles away, and yet I feel close and involved with their lives. Those of you who bother to still read this, you are all my true friends, and I just want to say how thankful I am to have you in my life. I'm thankful to have friends send me flowers and gifts on my birthday, who say hello for no particular reason, who fly hundreds of miles just to come visit. I'm happy I moved to DC, and only moved knowing that no matter where I go in life, my true friends will always be a part of the adventure. Yes yes, I'm being all nostalgic and sappy, but I really just want to say how grateful I am to have such amazing friends in my life. It's hard to say goodbye, but it's never truly goodbye if you are close friends.
That is all. :)
Love always,
Danielle
