rant.

I'm sitting at our ancient, pathetically slow computer right now, trying to write my "Twilight" review before I head to my friend Libby's apartment. In the other room, my neighbor is in the middle of telling my brothers how by 2042, we are going to be living in an entirely socialist nation, white people will be outnumbered by Hispanics and blacks, it's all Obama's fault, people are going to be emigrating out of the US like nobody's business, taxes taxes taxes, blah blah blah.

I HATE coming home and trying to talk politics with anyone. I HATE how my views are dismissed because I'm a "liberal college student, that's how they all think." I HATE how the adults around me think I'm hotheaded and impulsive just because I'm young.

I know my shit. I'm not some radical liberal; I'm an independent, intelligent, free-thinking voter. I voted in November based on my opinion on major issues in the world and who I thought would handle them better. I hold some conservative views, I hold some liberal views. Currently, the liberal outweigh the conservative; thus, I voted for Obama.

I respect conservatism; I do not currently respect the Republican party. I am not a Democrat, I am an Independent who, after lots of thought and consideration of the state of our country, currently holds democratic-leaning views. I respect people who know what they are talking about; I don't respect ignorance.

The fact that I'm only 20 doesn't make my opinion less valuable than yours. Just because I'm optimistic doesn't mean I'm naive or stupid.

I hope I never turn into the type of adult who dismisses what young people think.

life, politics
