This week can suck it.
The local GOP party is trying to unseat the current town administration, so they keep sending out my town board articles with subject lines that make it sound like we're supporting them in mass emails. They also cut off the end of a recent article that included criticism from a resident of their methods. My publisher sent a cease and desist letter, and their lawyer sent a mean letter back, saying that my coverage is always slanted but "a biased media is a fact of life."
A lady called asking about an ad about two days after our advertising deadline, so I tried to accommodate her by writing up a notice for editorial. She just wrote me an email listing all her problems with it and saying how disappointed she is.
Like three members of that same GOP party always accost me at meetings and call me and send me their notes and research and opinions on all the supposedly horrific things the town board is doing. I hate it, I hate it, I hate it. I hate them. I suck at playing the game, I want no part of it, I'm horrible at making nice to maintain access to sources, and I think that makes me a worse journalist. I know it does.
To top it all off, one of my best friends from college was just diagnosed with esophageal cancer. He's 27. What the flying fuck.
