I just went for an interview for an enterprise reporting position at Business First Buffalo. As usual, I imagined the extreme-- what if I got it? What would I do? How would this change things? Should I leave the Courier just like that?

The money offered was phenomenal, about 50 percent more than what I make now. The work would be intense, but challenging in a different way than the grind that is my current job. A good challenge, one that would stretch my reporting skills and drastically widen my portfolio.

I met with the head editors, and the interview went very well, I thought. They essentially told me that they've had their eyes on me for a while, ever since I interviewed with them for an internship a few years ago, and that although this is probably not the best position for my skills right now, they'd love for me to freelance for them. I'd get the experience, they'd get the help and it'll help me keep my byline in front of them and my stories in their pages. Oh yeah, it pays about half my weekly paycheck for ONE freelance story.

So, I'm a freelancer for both The Buffalo News and Business First, and I'm still editor of the Courier. I'm going to have even less free time than ever, but that's how I run best.

I'm excited to have these opportunities to keep my writing sharp. I'm excited to move in with Dave in August. I'm excited for my friends and the directions life is taking them.

I'm excited about everything right now.
