Hell is full of musical amateurs.*

Wow! What a weekend!

I spent all weekend at the Hideout's Block Party....oh, yeah, it was also the 10th anniversary of the Block Party and the 25th anniversary of Touch N Go Records. So, the Block Party was completely packed and sold-out. I'm not going to give you a detailed review. All I have to say is that I got a chance to see some of the best bands to come out of one of Chicago's greatest indie record labels.  A lot of these bands came together to play just for this weekend. Big Black reunited for three whole songs after calling it quits in 1987. That reunion alone was worth the price of Saturday's admission (about $10 for 8 hours of music if you got the 3 day pass like moi!) Other really great performances: Scratch Acid, Shellac (Steve Albini should run for office!!), Brick Layer Cake, and Ted Leo + The Pharmacists.  There were also a few too many bands that were plain 'ole boring or made me wish for burst eardrums.  But, you can't win them all.  Despite some of the musical short-falls the entire Block Party was a blast.  Actually, it was worth it for the Hipster watching. You can hate the Trixies as much as you like but the Hipsters are just as bad, in their own ways, and just as cliquish.
girlvii and I went on Friday and Sunday. I was dreading having to spend the entire day Saturday having awkward and strained conversations with JG. However, I was saved by the happy accident of meeting
belalugosisda and his life-long friend, J. Oh the joy! They came to Chicago from Birmingham, England just for the Block Party. I spent almost all day Saturday and Sunday (with
girlvii) hanging out with them, showing them a bit of Chicago, and doing a lot of drinking and talking. I now have two new friends in the UK. I'm coming to visit soon, lads...I hope!!

I took the day off from work yesterday to get the WAFF financial statements together and get some unpacking done. Also, it was the perfect weather for staying in bed and reading. And I did just that. I managed to read all three plays that Will Act for Food is considering for our next season. I have to tell y'all that I'm terribly excited about our next season!!  All three plays that are up for consideration are great.  But what I'm most excited about is that we want to do a modern-language version of Lysistrata...with puppets and lots of exaggerated phall[uses]ic symbols! It's funny and timely and I love the characters.  Sooo excited!

I wish all weekends were three days long.

Fall is here!!!
