shiny and not tiny

I freaking love the idea of this thing. I do. It's BIG, it's FLAT, it's portable, it has wi-fi and an e-book reader and it's NOT A LAPTOP! It's what I've wanted to exist for years. Seriously, I don't think it's actually much of a step forward and I don't see why everyone else is so excited but it's just exactly what I want.* So why do I detest  the interface so much?

I don't like Apple and I don't like Apple stuff. The main reason for this is that all Apple devises are designed to be convenient and therefore limiting. You can't do much about how they are set up. Plus, there is all the other baggage that comes with them and the way they are advertised. At every turn, Apple forces you to do things the way Apple wants. I want something where I can decide what I want and how to implement it. I want all kinds of choices that just don't exist with Apple products.

Also I can't help but feel that all those fancy menus are somehow a waste of something. It also falls down massively with the lack of USB ports or card reader.

I don't know what I'm saying though. On my PC I use Windows because it's all there for you. I can add in anything I want but the basics are there and already working. Or not, because it's Windows and it sucks. It's expensive and insecure and it breaks a lot and steals your thoughts. So what else? My only other experience is with Linux. I think Linux is fucking brilliant. I love the thinking behind it and I love how it works. Unfortunately, the inevitable consequence of this is that it's a fucking pain. Linux is a constant stream of problems that are difficult to anticipate and only fixable if you know how. Linux requires a lot of Internet time to work out what exact thing you need to make one thing work with another thing. It's fine on a rainy Sunday but today I just want to use the net, write my CV and watch a film later.Fuck that.

In summery: I need to learn to program. Here's a very out of date song from Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie:

*Yessss I do know that tablet computers already exist. I don't want one of those. I want something dedicated to doing a few things well. Something to use at home or to put in a bag. I have a PC at home and I have no need to have on elsewhere.

i want to live in star trek, youtube, geeky shit
