From Kung Fu Monkey by way of jason0x21:

"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. "This is not a novel to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force."

To be fair, it's a morality play. It is a highly simplified look at the world to illustrate a simplified way of seeing society.

Coupled with objectivist philosophy and put in the hands of adolescents who are incapable of critical analysis of the relative merit of the concepts, of course, it's really not a whole lot different than just handing someone a Bible and saying "here, this is what you'll live by now."

I'm tickled by the idea that we're supposed to believe that professional career millionaires spend this much of their time posting comments to Red State and Michelle Malkin's blog, but I still say good for them. Get out of the way, and have a lovely life in Aruba or whatever other fantasy world you're running to :)

You're kidding. They're actually going off to the magical Objectivist wonderland? It's like all of my dreams are coming true! Now they'll all be in one spot when the revolution comes!

Dude, if you ever find out, let me know. I wouldn't mind a lateral career move over to business. I'm good-looking enough, have a good speaking voice, and am fully capable of handing over decision-making to a handful of flawed Gaussian equations. I daresay I could sink our economy at least a quickly as our current captains of industry, if not faster.

By the way, I adore Dorothy Parker and you totally get a cookie for quoting her.
