Pippi was vaguely aware of the silver cylinder that surrounded her. Her eyes were open but it was very difficult to focus on what she was actually seeing. The buzzing noise filled her ears while strange thoughts and images filled her mind. It was mostly technical and unfamiliar, except for the bit about navigating by the stars. That part at ( Read more... )

"Why do I feel like I know how to use this thing?" Pip asked as he pushed himself off the ground and retrieved his hat.

"Which thing?" Pippi responded rubbing her forehead. "Oh, I think this is a headache ja?"

Pip gestured at the central column. "That... thinga...ma...what'sit. And I'd describe this more as mortar fire in the brain.

Pippi looked over at the black square column.

"Oh the SIDART?" Pippi asked starting to walk around the thing and instinctively checking to see if it was ready for take off. "... Wait a minute. How'd I know it was called that?"

"I imagine for a similar reason I know it's going to get us the hell out of here," Pip mumbled as he staggered towards said column.

"Wait!" Pippi said taking his arm to help steady him. "We can't just go in there, collate the ACM with the with the NAGCS, engage the autron field generators while compensating for electro-magnetic interference and dematerialize leaving everybody else we've been working with for the last year stranded on this cotton picking rock."

"Right. But we can reverse the polarity of the neutron flow and probably pick them up before we leave."

"If we reverse the polarity it might cause the Zyton-7 transponders in the 2LO Energy Distributor Circuit to crack and then where would we be?"

"No, trust me," Pip said as he started to look for a door, "this'll work."

"You I trust." Pippi responded feeling around for the panel to open the door. "It's whoever made this thing I'm suspicious off."

Odd how they knew all sorts of minutia about how this thing ran but they couldn't get in.

Perhaps she should have waited for the buzzing to stop before she started destroying the cylinders they had been trapped in...

Just then an emergency klaxon began to sound.

"Okay, that's probably not good."

"That, my dear, depends on your definition of good," the Master said as he entered the room, PDA in one hand, the other placing a gadget into his jacket pocket.

"Doctor!" Pippi cried happily and bounded over to hug him.

And that was it.

That was the last push too far. He'd been putting up with it for far, far too long.

His face twitched and he pushed Pippi away. "That. Is. Not. My. Name."

The push caught her so much by surprise that she was actually pushed back a few steps.

"Well, I mean..." she said, somewhat lamely. "I know... You never told us..."

"DO NOT CALL ME BY THAT NAME!" the Master spat, putting the PDA in another pocket and pulling out a Screwdriver.

Pippi is genuinely confused and, after all she and people she cared very much about had been through, actually a little angry at this outburst at her for calling him a name he'd given her to call him to begin with.

"Well what should I call you then?" She asked crossly over the noise of the klaxon.
