Pippi was a little broody just now. She was supposed to be moving in with Pip but when she knocked on his door he wasn't there. Nor was he
answering his phone.
So rather then hang out in the dorms all day she was outside reading a book.
The area around the dorms is slightly wild and wooded. Pippi liked sitting just beyond the edge of the large clearing where the buildings sat.
There was something really fun about looking around and seeing terrain as if you were miles from anywhere, and yet knowing that civilization was just beyond those trees over there. But if you went the other way you'd be going deeper into wilderness that would eventually give way to swamp.
It was kind of exciting, like at any moment a surprise visitor could melt in through the trees.
"Buenos dias."
Oh she knew that voice...
With a speed she usually reserved for playing with Walter, she grabbed a gun from... somewhere... The glock Pip had given her, and rolled behind the tree she was sitting against, using the tree for cover she fired in the direction the voice seemed to be coming from.
"Cute," a voice said from behind her.
Stupid woods and its stupid echoes.
Pippi slowly turned around.
He smiled a devil's smile.
It was the only smile he had. "Well hello, Pippilota. How've you been? My employers told me you had quite a lot of fun at the mall the other day."
"... You work for people?"
"Occasionally," El Pistolero responded. "Bullets cost money, after all."
"I'm going to skip over expressing my continuing surprise from the idea you actually buy bullets and get right to 'what are you doing here?'" Pippi said pointing her gun at him. "He's not here."
"Yet," El Pistolero said. "The idea is to make him come here."
"I have a better idea..." Pippi responded as she took aim.
"I disagree. Your idea gets people other than me killed. People you care about. My idea is much better."
That stopped her.
"... What do you mean by that?"
"What do you think I mean? Are you... missing anyone?"
Pippi's heart started to flutter around her chest.
Without taking her gun off the man she took out her cel phone and called #1 on the speed dial...
El Pistolero reached into a pocket and pulled out a vibrating cell phone. "Hang on, I've got this thing on vibrate. I always forget it." He opened it up. "Hello?"
Pippi dropped her phone. She took several steps towards the man and tried not to crush the gun she had trained on him.
"Where is he?!"
El Pistolero grinned. "Excellent question. I'll give you a hint."
He pointed out towards the swamp.
"That way."
Stay calm. Stay calm.
"You know what?" she said gesturing with her gun. "I know wizards, and witches, and they've taught me a thing or two. I don't need your help to find him. So give me one good reason why I shouldn't mash you into pie filling."
"No, you don't," El Pistolero said. "People are easy. They're large, they're alive, they can leave traces, they give off heat. You might need my help to find the antidote, though. Little unmarked vials are notably harder."
This guy just had an answer for everything, didn't he?
"Antidote to what?" she asked. As if she couldn't guess.
"...To the poison," El Pistolero said, as if to a small child. "Slow acting. Painful, I hear. He seemed like he was in a lot of pain after I gave it to him."
The anger coming from Pippi's glare is palpable.
"What do you want?"
"Get El. Bring him here. It's time to finish it, and I'm sick of waiting. Bring him here so he can die. Have him call me on the Frenchmen's phone."
And then he was gone
Pippi had no assurances regarding when she would get what she wanted out of this situation, but she also didn't feel like she had much choice.
She gathered up her things and hurried back to the dorm.
Angry. So so very angry that it almost seemed like the air close to her body wavered a little with heat.
