Non-spoilery review: IT WAS AWESOME. And in case you're wondering, yes, you should stick around after the credits.
Where do I even start??
Let's start with Black Widow! Everything about her was awesome, there was not a moment that she was on screen that I didn't love. And I am so freaking happy she got so much character development. That scene where she talks to Loki, I was worried for a moment, but then I was like, this is the Black Widow, she is not broken that easily. And then she turned around and was like, "you're a monster!" and I was like, lol yep, she's faking. AND SHE WAS AND IT WAS GREAT.
I really hope she gets her own movie, because COME ONE. I will be very angry with Marvel if that doesn't happen. Like, the whole thing about the red in her file, you could easily spin a movie out of that. Hawkeye can be her sidekick.
Other character I really loved: Tony! I know he's a douchebag, but I'm pretty douchesexual, so, you know. Plus, he had some of the best lines in the whole damn movie. And the moments with Pepper were really sweet, and I love how they were kind of bookends to the movie.
Uh, that whole de-Iron Man-ing sequence, where his robots take the armor off him? SUPER HOT. Like, I am into cyborgs?? Yes, totally.
Plus, I totally loved that bit where Steve confronts him about not being a hero, and then at the end he goes and does the most heroic thing ever, and it is AWESOME.
Uh, what else? Bruce Banner! THE HULK. Also pretty amazing. I think I've seen, like, bits and pieces of the Hulk movie, but never the whole thing, so I'm gonna have to watch that later, but I loved everything about him in this movie. I love how he seemed so calm and contained, and a little subdued, and then he turns into this raging monster.
And then there's the scene where he literally wipes the floor with Loki. DEAR GOD THAT SCENE. The whole theater was laughing at that, and it was amazing, and I loved the look on Loki's face afterward, like he can't believe that just happened.
There were a lot of action sequences, and they were all pretty great, but I do wish we'd gotten just a bit more character development. Like, we didn't get practically any for Hawkeye, and not a whole lot for Cap or Thor either. But then, I guess that's what their own movies will be for.
Agent Coulson as a Cap fanboy was pretty cute, but I don't understand Fury using him as a rallying point for the heroes. I don't get how Cap could have gotten that invested in a dude in a few hours. I did love the bit about Fury planting the trading cards though. I love how he's a really calculating dude who knows just how to play them all.
Damn, I'm running out of steam now. Um, what else? Oh right, Loki! Him and Thor and their entire relationship, and how Thor clearly loves him and just wants to take him away and protect him and make him good again, and then there's Loki's anger and hate and jealousy and they just play off each other so well.
And to wrap this up, shipping! I'll admit, I'm not too into any of the pairings, although I'll read Tony/Bruce if any crops up. They had some of the best interactions in the movie. I mean, Tony seemed pretty into Bruce, right? And the whole poking him to get him to hulk out was cute, and then there was that serious conversation which is like, one of the very few times when Tony was actually not joking around.
And I'd read a lot of fic about Natasha. Or comics, you know, I'm not picky. Although I don't think she has a lot of her own titles, which is really sad.
In conclusion: AWESOME, WOULD WATCH AGAIN.
