"Sorry, sorry, I'm sorry!" says the stranger, leaning down to pick up the bags he'd caused her to drop. He hands them to her, then proceeds to stand in front of her like a freaking tree,
"Donna Noble," he says with a smile.
"How'd you know my name?"
"I'm the Doctor," he says. "I know everything."
There's a spark then, at the back of her mind, the hint of a long-forgotten memory, or a dream quickly slipping away upon wakefulness. She blinks.
"You're not any doctor I know," she says and then makes to step around him.
He steps in front of her.
"I'm sorry, Donna. I really am sorry."
You should be, she almost says, but she gets the feeling he's not talking about knocking into her, so instead she settles on, "What for?"
Instead of replying, however, he grabs her head and leans in, leaning his forhead against hers. The gesture surprises her, so she doesn't think to move away, to step back, and then it's too late, because it feels like there's a pressure in her head, something bursting to get through. There's a golden thread flying through her brain, firing the neurons, spark after spark after spark, and suddenly there's the whole universe inside her head. It feels too full.
"Doctor," she gasps. Her eyes fly open.
"Shhh," he says, and he's frowning like he's concentrating on something, and then the lights and explosions inside her head quiet down, the universe seems to shrink, until it's just a blanket of stars, woven through the rest of her mind. She prods at it, and the knowledge is there for her to access when she wants, but not overwhelming anymore.
"There," he says, and he finally lets her go, stepping back to smile at her.
She opens her eyes, and stares at him. He's changed. He's a bit taller now, with a square chin and a big nose, and his hair swoops rakishly. And he's wearing the most ridiculous --
"Bowtie?" she says with a raised eyebrow.
"They're cool," he says.
She grins. "What are we waiting for then? Let's go!"
He laughs, gives her a quick hug, and then they're off.
I was going through all the fandoms we had in common and trying to settle on one, and then it hit me, and I was like, DUH, SELF, a fix-it for Donna is the best idea! SO I'M GLAD YOU LIKED IT! \o/
