People should try strange pairings more, I think. *HINT* :D I do try to read every strange pairing out there, but as in every fandom, there are bound to be weak writers out there, who have ideas (or not) but somehow are unable to bring it across nicely, and that kind of turns you off from both writing and the pairing.

Ah, I do get what you mean. And strangely, I work the opposite way. I think the reason why I have yet to deal in a 'canon' pairing is because of that establishment by other writers. Somehow, for fics on pairings that I really like, I keep a mental image of how they interact and their characters in my mind - and this holds me back from writing on the same people. It's sort of like, 'you love how she's written them in such a way but you don't want to destroy that with something else'. It's kind of a mental thing for me - I always feel that while my fics may not be bad, they're not the best in my brain. And that keeps me from going into such pairings, especially if mine isn't going to be as strong and impact people the way that that fic had.
