So when it comes to my kitchen, I am a neat freak. And I’m pretty good about keeping up with it too. I clean as I cook so it’s not overwhelming later. I do dishes most every day (Some days get skipped because I feel that 2 bowls, a cup and a spoon doesn’t justify using that much water). And my counters must be cleaned, sanitized. I LOVE those wipes they have now, I could go through a whole container in a week if I wasn’t so cheap. They are wonderful. Now I can wipe the counters down daily without getting out the Clorox every time and worry about keeping the cat away until it dries. (He has a thing for the smell of bleach, he absolutely loves it! It’s rather disturbing really.)
Part of my obsessions for cleanliness stems from my strong dislike of raw or undercooked meat, I am paranoid about it. Although with Matt’s “encouragement” I now can actually eat beef that is “Medium well” opposed to charcoal. But when I cook is when I go a little nuts. I’m very careful with raw meat, chicken and eggs. I make sure nothing else touches that area, cutting boards that are ONLY used for meat or chicken. I even go so far to turn on the hot water before I start working with it so that I can wash my hands. (If you have icky stuff on your hand, use your hand to turn on the faucet, wash your hands and then turn off the faucet, you have just negated the whole reason for washing your hands. Yes, I’m neurotic.)
So it was interesting the other night when I was making basic chocolate chip cookies. I made them as usual, and when it came to cracking the eggs I made sure the raw egg didn’t touch anything, I had wipes ready to clean any drips and made sure wash may hands before doing anything else with the recipe. And then it dawned on me as I ate the wonderfulness is chocolate chip cookie dough, which I do every time I make cookies (actually there is a distinct chance I eat more cookies in dough form than baked), I was eating the very same raw eggs that I had taken so much precaution to avoid. This could only lead to one conclusion in my mind:
Chocolate must neutralize any bacteria that is found in eggs.
