Okay, mind still on debate, so will do runthrough. If this bores you, don't read.

Agressive, tendency to laugh. Tried to claim America isn't imperialist. Phillipines may not have been a good counterexample after all (will have to look into more detail) but if I'd been able to come back to the point about indigenous people, I'm not sure how he would have countered to that. Probably something about properly using the land or something blatantly eurocentric or just plain us-vs-them like that. He claimed the Patriot Act didn't really do anything new (still need court order to tap phones etc) and was justified anyway. Hasn't been to a real permit-requiring protest as far as he can remember but that was kind of a side point.

These things are still worth-while, even though I think I wasn't making a good case and

He was trying to claim capitalism always existed. Red bandanna guy whose name i don't remember made intelligent explanation of feudalism v capitalism, I tried to get into sustenance agriculture and foraging societies but wasn't able to really get my point through (pace of arguement was too fast, natural result of hostility and nervousness) (but you really have to respect anyone who will surround himself with ppl who disagree with him and argue all by himself -- the rest of us got to tag-team. Other college guy with beard seamed pretty up on Vietnam although Patriot was verbally shooting him down -- by that I'm commenting on his manner and attitude of delivery more than what he was actually saying. When you have two or more people reading on different pages, one person saying A is A and one saying B is B doesn't give one person firmer grounds over the other . . . that's a really weird image; I don't think that's quite what I meant to say.)

I'm still rattled. And hyper. I should do this Friday thing again; discussion makes me feel alive. Especially combatant style. Doesn't have to be that viscious though -- yikes.

Have time before class still. Should go back out in a bit and ask Daya about PSA involvement. Need to figure out also if there's any way to get to Ecopeace thing without missing my physics prelim. I was thinking it was just a lecture, which would be bad but doable (Erik says he stopped going to lectures for the equivalent class and just picked it up from reading the book. And doing the problems of course. Bastard.) but prelims are kinda important. I have to check when it'd start and when my ride would leave (there's enough PAXers going that we'll probably carpool) the other 121 lecture takes it at 11 so I could be out by 12 -- people with 1200 classes take it at 11 so it wouldn't be a problem I don't think. Yeah, for some reason even though all the lectures are at 11 the prof likes giving the prelims an hour earlier, right after the earlier class. Something about grading them immediately after, although the TA's do that anyway so I don't know.

I tried to explain the difference between "hating America" and hating the govt/foreign policy. I think it came out OK, not sure if was at all convincing especially since that's so much more of an emotion-based thing rather than a fact-based thing. Ended when someone else came up and then he left. Meant to compliment him on having guts or something like that, trend it towards a more calm civil discussion since those have more chance of actually getting ideas across anyway, but didn't earlier and , well, it just didn't happenn. Overall very happy with self though. Was good. Plus I got that book back to Alicia or whatever her name is. She's going to be back home in Connecticut until Sun after Thanksgiving. Yoga club I found out meets Tu Fri and Sun at 6 pm think I'll go today. It'll give me something to look forward to sundays also. Meant to ask Daya about PSA but she was on cell phone maybe later.
