I went to visit Paul at camp on Friday. Paul works at a cub scout camp. I used to be firmly against the boyscouts. "How much I hate the boyscouts" was, in fact, one of my very favorite rants. It was a good thing to get me started on if I'd had a few drinks. That, and how much I hate "I Come from a Land Down Under." God, what a stupid song.
Paul's entire family is somehow involved with the Boyscouts of America. Paul is an Eagle Scout and his two little brothers are working on it, and it's obviously very important to all of them. Nowadays I have a hard time talking about why the Boyscouts suck without feeling bad.
But the Cub Scouts... can you say adorable? The sessions all end of Fridays, and every Friday staff serves dinner and puts on a show of sorts afterwards. Paul gets to dress up like a rockstar and play a blow up pink guitar. It's his favorite thing ever. The whole show was really cute. The kids LOVE Paul and his buddies. He always tells me all the stories of his shinanigans that almost get him fired every year, and I always ask him "Well... aren't you afraid that they're just going to get fed up and fire you someday?" He always says no, because he and his friends are the most enthusiastic councelors they have, and I finally believe him. These kids couldn't have been more excited. After two songs the head guy said that they were tired and needed a break, and would any of the kids like to be a rockstar? The kids went nuts. All of them were screaming and jumping on the boys in the band and fighting over plastic blow-up guitars.
Before Paul went on he was practicing his passed-out-rockstar look. He puts on his party shirt, his aviators, and dangles a cigarette from his lip, and then slumps against a wall. The boy looks like a rockstar, with his long curly hair and scruffy face. It was sexy.
I still haven't had sex. Updates posted as events warrent.
Today I gave Choco his "MacCondoms -- whisky flavored condoms. Fun and Safe." He said they were "clever." Then he put them in the drawer of "Mom don't look in there."
