First of all, I love that you put this story in an unexpected setting. Louisiana seems like such a surprising choice - it's always LA or some unspecified city in Texas or whatever - and at first I was like okay Lindsay, random. Once I got into the story though, you made it feel like there was nowhere else it could've happened, like New Orleans was a character in the story as much as Jensen and Jared were. (Not as much as Brock Kelly; nothing is as relevant as Brock Kelly.) I've never been to Louisiana, or really to the south at all, other than to your house and some grody mall in Orlando, but you really made the city breathe. I loved that.
You've got this way of always doing more than you have to do, in stories. Like here, you probably could've just told us the story of Jared and Jensen and maybe a little Danneel. But you gave us this really rich atmosphere, too, and you gave every single character their own storyline and life. You do that with all your stories, it's really impressive - like, one of my favorite things about "Puzzle" is how three-dimensional Jared's family is (and how awesome Megan is) and in the Noir story you built this whole WORLD, a whole town of characters that each have their own motivation and purpose. In this one the characters were so defined - like, how much do I love Leighton? I LOVE her. I love how you made her so different from how we usually see her, but with just enough Blair in her that we could still hear her voice saying the dialogue.
And Jensen and Jared! Jared is my favorite here. (And... everywhere.) I love how he's always been such a pussy with Danneel but he's pretty brave with Jensen; his freakouts could be WAY worse. And I like that Jensen is all smooth bravado, whatever, until he can't fake it anymore. Usually I don't like the whole love-at-first-sight thing, where they're falling all over each other right off the bat, but it really worked here. Especially now that we know that's what happened IRL, THANK YOU JASON MANNS FOR SHOWING ME THE LIGHT.
NOT GONNA LIE, I skipped the porn. YOUR MASSAGE KINK WEIRDS ME OUT, LINDS. Hahahahahaha. BUT. It's funny, because you'd think that this story that would really rely heavily on the sex - seeing as it's, you know, about a porn star and set in a sex shop and utilizes a dildo as a major plot device - but it didn't. The emotions were really palpable even without the sex, and the sexual tension revealed itself in SPADES just from their conversations. You're goooooood.
I hate you a little for the Jared/Danneel and the lack of Jared/Leighton. WHY DO YOU TEASE ME?!
