I need a knitting icon

I keep starting posts and then not posting them, and I don't remember what any of them were supposed to be about, and just now I want to talk about knitting:

I am knitting a pair of legwarmers for my cousin for Christmas. It is taking forever. Each legwarmer has to be 26 inches long, and that is really, really long. I finished the first one last night, and it is crazy unflattering on me. I'm not terribly worried about this, as my cousin is a ballet dancer, and her legs are approximately twice as long and half as wide as my legs, but I just can't believe that I have to knit a whole other one. And then I've got it in my head to knit another pair (not for my cousin). I think I'll do those mostly in stockinette, though, so hopefully they won't make my legs look so monstrous (my cousin's pair are all in 1x1 rib).

I'm also knitting myself a scarf, which is also taking forever. Most of the reason for that is that I have ripped it out and started it over at least seven times, because I couldn't make up my mind on what stitch pattern I wanted, and then when I did make up my mind, I kept screwing it up, and then I changed my mind again. I really like the pattern I'm using now, but it is beyond my skill level to fix mistakes in this particular pattern when I make them (which is inevitable). I think it's okay, though. I love the yarn that I'm using (Alchemy Synchronicity, in silver) so much, and I'm really sorry for having abused it so much when I was flailing around at the beginning.

I took my two weeks of mitten-knitting class, and it was nice. I was the youngest in the class by about fifteen years, so that was funny. The lady who sat next to me was a riot. We were the two left-handers (knitting right-handed), so we decided to blame it on that whenever we screwed up. Which was a lot. I have one mitten totally knitted except for the thumb, and I don't love it. I think I will start from scratch with different yarn, and hopefully fewer mistakes. I did come out knowing how to use double pointed needles, though, so that is a win. No classes this week, and then starting next week I have three weeks of intermediate knitting class. I don't know. I think about yarn a lot.

My mum and I are going on Saturday to the Woodstock Fleece Festival, which I hope will be great. I could look at yarn for ages, and also sheep, and this will have both! I hope it won't be too spendy, because I am both extremely acquisitive, and pretty damn broke. And then I will pick apples with offonmars on Sunday! (Weather permitting.)

UNRELATED to knitting, I am worried about everyone's fingers. On Thanksgiving two weekends ago, my aunt got the blade of her immersion blender stuck IN THE BONE of her index finger (if you feel like you need to stick your finger in your blender to clean it out, please unplug it first, no matter how certain you are that you won't accidentally hit the power button). She is fine, and has had miraculously little pain (aside from the pain of embarrassment at the hospital, where all the doctors and nurses and orderlies came to look at her with her blender stuck on her hand). Less fine is family friend R., who had a terrible accident with a table saw and lost most of the fingers on his left hand. In the woods, in Maine. Happily, his son happened to be there and was able to take him to the hospital right away, but the damage is done. Eeek! So please, everyone, be careful with your digits!
