Ugh, this day. Already it is TOO HARD. And since Wednesday was also TOO HARD, I call time out. Only, you know, not actually time out, because I have to do work and stuff. But wouldn't it be cool if you could call time out on the universe? Since I cannot, I am drinking Coke in the morning, because otherwise I might explode/expire/bite my boss's head clean off.
Good things:
- I understand the Jesus fish and the
Darwin fish, but for ages I have been seeing a similar car ornament that looked like a crab with letters inside, and couldn't figure it out. Today I was behind a car that had it on the license plate holder, and at the bottom it said "Pastafarian". Something to Google, aha! And now I know about the
Flying Spaghetti Monster, hee!

On the knitting front, I have made approximately one million seed stitch washcloths (actual number: three), knitted a wee donkey out of scratchy Icelandic wool (it was all going swimmingly until I had to stuff and stitch the donkey, and then bad things happened, so I need to try again), failed to learn how to knit anything other than i-cord on double-pointed needles, and had two moderate non-washcloth successes.
First, my
Noro scarf. I was OBSESSED with wanting to make this scarf for weeks, but didn't know where to get the yarn, and then the yarn shop in St. Thomas had it, and I was so happy! I had a little bit of trouble at the beginning with the k1, p1 rib (I had to backtrack and redo the eighth row like twelve times, it was awful), but once I got the hang of it, it was pretty fun. The yarn (Noro Silk Garden) is funny, in ways both good and bad. It has parts that are very thick and parts that are very thin, so achieving any sort of stitch consistency was hard for me (I stopped trying and let it do what it wanted), and there were occasional bits of non-yarn stuff in the yarn. There were also knots in both balls (this scarf is knit with stripes from two balls of yarn at a time), which I hate, but I was especially irritated at one, because the yarns joined together were completely different colours. But I lived. There were a few colour combos I did not love, and one baffling part where both yarns were the same colour for several rows, but overall, I really loved it, and want to make mooooooooooore.
TL;DR: Look at the pretty colours!!
You're supposed to use four balls altogether, but that makes a really long scarf, and I am not really tall, so I just did two balls. It's a good length for tucking into a coat, and that's what I shall do.
The next one I make, I think I will have one bright colourway and one darker/more muted colourway, instead of two bright ones. For contrast!
The other thing I made is another crown. For
offonmars's birthday. Ha! I don't know, I kind of love the crowns. It's probably wrong of me to inflict them on people, but they're so fuzzy and fun!
I made a solid band for the back instead of adjustable ties, and I like that better. People keep saying they would be good ear warmers for winter, which is true, if you didn't mind walking around with a wooly crown on your head.
I have a picture of J. in her crown, but I don't know if I'm allowed to share it, so instead I will share a picture of my cousin's little girl in the crown I made for her:
She's so cute!
- TGIF!
