The first installment of my
December posting party!
A book I've read more than five times!
The Golden Compass by Phillip Pullman makes that list, I think I've read it upwards of ten times since the first time, when I was about ten years old. It's achieved Comfort Reading status. Have whatever theosophical debates you want about the content of the His Dark Materials series, I really enjoy his worldbuilding and how well-rounded his characters are. Lyra is a fantastic unreliable narrator and kicks ass too. Honourable mention also goes to the Sally Lockheart trilogy, but I haven't read those as many times.
Since the Five Reads Club is a short list for me, I'll mention the other stand-out worn-out books in my collection: the Black Jewels trilogy by Anne Bishop. Yeah, I first read those when I was about 15 and they're a favourite guilty pleasure read to this day. Great worldbuilding again. The writing is meh and gets worse when you get past the first three or four books she wrote in that series, but go ahead and find me a more hilariously entertaining fantasy romance novel than Black Jewels.
