Got an e-mail from the OE yesterday. Carlin, one of our former shared cats, died the other day. She'd been diagnosed with cancer about a month ago, apparently, and it was quick. I was surprised to hear it because she wasn't very old, but there you go. I hope it wasn't tremendously painful. The OE has already gotten another cat (personally, I like to have time to mourn, but to each his own).
Carlin was several cans short of a six-pack. She is without question the dumbest cat I have ever met. She only ever did one smart thing in her entire life, which was to walk uphill (to our house) rather than downhill (into the swamp where the foxes would have eaten her) when she was dropped off at the side of the road as a kitten. Her two saving graces were that she was exquisitely beautiful (gray longhair) and very sweet and lovable. She was extremely proud of her glorious, fluffy bottle-brush tail and did her best to show it off at all times. She only became a lap cat when we had company--it was as if she was staking out her territory--but she was totally fine with petting. She always gave preferential treatment to the OE, so there was really no question about who should take her when we split up, and I was fine with that.
Now that both she and Braggi are gone, I'm not sure I'll ever have any need to correspond with him again. This is weird. Not bad weird...just weird.
In other news:
Thunderstorms! Yay!
Taiko drumming with
soteltie and Aquel tomorrow! Yay!
Probably being done with work at 2 tomorrow! Yay!
Next week's going to be a hellaciously long week--I needed to cram a 5 day trip into 4 days so that I could be in town all day on Monday for a Mutual Aid Plan drill planning conference. So, the leisurely mid-week half day of playtime with da nieces and da nephew had to be scrapped and we'll only be able to do dinner in the evening. Boo. >:-( But I do get to see everybody--Yay! So, Monday I'll be here, Tuesday flying out at oh-dawn-thirty so that I can get there in time to do training in the afternoon, working all week and then flying home on Friday at 6 PM (home by 11ish). I am SO totally doing nothing next weekend!
I'm ditching my stylist. Having mentally reviewed the past year's worth of hairstyles, I would say that she only managed to cut it successfully about 1 out of every 3 times she did it. Since my hair is really challenging to screw up and I've spent more time this year having bad hair days than good ones, she's gotta go. Anybody out there in the greater Boston area have a great stylist they'd recommend? I am willing to travel (which I'm sure is no surprise to you). :-)
I went to Home Depot before I had dinner with Mom and David Mom-Spouse yesterday and purchased the rest of my shoemaking supplies. So, this weekend will hopefully see me designing the patterns and putting the leather on the lasts so that I can bring them along to OH. Oh, and I also got something I've wanted for a really long time--a Dremel tool. Since I've just found where I'd stashed my collection of sterling silver wire, this means I can make more hammered wire jewelry. Yay!
I put a fleece blanket down on the new chair to keep the fur-quotient down since everyone seems to love sleeping in it. Well, the fleece blanket is making it even more popular! Dori and K have been sleeping on it together, all snuggled up (because if there's no snuggling, there's not enough room for two). :-) She's currently lying halfway on top of him and trying to shove him over to get more space. Unfortunately, K is the quintessential immovable object, so this is cheap entertainment for me.
